3 tips for lifestyle product photography
I have done many different product photo shoots around the Denver area. I always follow these three steps for creating stunning product photography that helps customers relate to the product. These product photos can be used to sell your product on an e-commerce website, to promote the product on social media, or to advertise the product online or in print ads. Check out the three tips below to have beautiful product photography that stops your customers in their tracks!
pick a good location:
Location is so important for taking product photos. You want a location that matches with your brand story. For example, I photographed for WOOOF nutrition, a dog supplement brand, in a kitchen because that is where the customer would give the product to their dog. I have also photographed liquor brands in the Colorado mountains, and a portable smoothie pop in a hotel and office setting. Choose a location with great lighting, lots of space for the photo shoot and that matches your brandβs style and story. This will help your product photos relate more to the customer and their everyday lifestyle.
2. Use Natural Light:
Natural light makes every photo feel more realistic. Adding flash can be necessary at times, especially for studio product photography. For lifestyle photography, the photos are usually taken with even natural light. If you are photographing indoors, choose a location that has a lot of windows with some even lighting. Do not photograph in a space with harsh shadows. If you are photographing outdoors, plan to do so in the morning or evening to get the best lighting of the day. You can also pick a shady location if you have to do the photo shoot in the middle of the day. Make sure you are not photographing the product with any shadows on the labels. That will make it hard to read in the photos. You want the product to be clearly visible and easy to read.
3. photograph people using the product:
The best way for your customer to picture themselves using the product, is to photograph people using the product. Educate your customers on how the product is used and how it can help them in their everyday lives. Photos can be very useful for this. Adding models to the photos gives it a more personal feel. You can even just have a hand model in the product photos, but having people smiling and laughing is really the best thing to do. Emotions in the photos will stop people in their tracks and can even change their mood. Remember that all sales are done from emotions. If the customer feels safe and happy when they are learning about your product, then they are most likely able to trust your brand enough to make that purchase. The sales process starts with strong product photography.
By following these tips, you can create stunning product photography for your brand. Having strong photography will help your business grow and outshine you against the competition.
