Boreas Pass Fall Camping in Colorado
Fall in Colorado is one of my favorite times to go camping in the Rocky Mountains. The aspen leaves are turning colors, and the nights are getting colder. I started doing some research about the best fall drives an hour away from Denver. I didn't want to go anywhere that was extremely crowded, like Kenosha Pass. Boreas Pass is in between Breckenridge and the small town of Como. We started our drive on the Como side, which was full of beautiful aspens!
It was definitely less crowded on this side of the pass, but there weren't as many dispersed camping sites on the side of the road. We kept driving for about 20 more minutes to the top of the pass, and closer to Breckenridge. There are some nice hikes up there, and the road is very popular for mountain biking.
We finally found our camping spot that was pretty much hidden. There were two old historic log cabins that we camped next to. The camping spot wasn't in an aspen grove, but the cabins made up for it.
We spent the perfect fall day relaxing and exploring the campsite with our dogs. Then we cooked up a great campfire meal. Our camping meals are usually pretty simple. We cook whatever veggies we have in the fridge, usually with some chicken sausage. Also, bourbon cocktails are always a great idea to stay warm during the cold fall nights.
The next day we drove down the pass to the Breckenridge side. The pass gets very narrow, and there is a huge drop off on one side. There are also some camping spots tucked into the aspens that are right along the road. The view of Breckenridge was stunning! Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of this because I was taking it all in, so you will have to explore it for yourself. If you have any other suggestions on fall camping or great fall drives with changing aspens, please share them with me!
