Giving Back | Non-Profit Spotlight
Photographing for mission-driven organizations has always been my passion.
We Don’t Waste
Saving food, protecting the planet and feeding people is this non-profit organization’s mission. I have had the pleasure of working with this organization. 180,000,000 servings of food has been saved through the incredible hard work of We Don’t Waste.
We Don’t Waste accomplishes their mission to reduce hunger and food waste through their efforts to obtain quality, unused food from the food industry and delivering it to nonprofit partners, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools and daycare programs, and more.
1. Saving Food
Established in 2009, We Don’t Waste has recovered 49 million pounds of food which otherwise may have ended up in a landfill. They partner with industry donors throughout the Denver area.
2. Protecting the Planet
In their efforts, to recover food and keep it out of landfills this helps our planet with less emissions. EPA data show that food waste is the single most common material landfilled and incinerated in the U.S., comprising 24 and 22 percent of landfilled and combusted municipal solid waste, respectively.
3. Feeding People
Through their partnership with over 100 non-profits providing food for those experiencing hunger they are able to continue the mission established in 2009.
4. volunteers
Volunteers play a vital role in the pick up, sorting, and delivery of the food needed by many Denver citizens. We Don’t Waste makes a special effort to show these volunteers how they are greatly appreciated and a difference they are making in the city.
In conclusion, I’m an advocate of supporting local non-profits with their missions. I’ve volunteered with We Don’t Waste and saw firsthand how mission driven they are. They are always in search of new volunteers to continue to assist with their fulfillment of their mission.
