Top 5 images I photograph for breweries

I’ve been photographing breweries around Denver for over 7 years and it really never gets old. Every brewery is uniquely different, with it’s own culture and personality that spans way beyond the taste of the beer. This is why it’s SO important to highlight the breweries through vibrant photography. It helps them stand out from one another and show the brand that they have created. Here are the 5 main types of images that I focus on every time I photograph a brewery.

1.    the brewing process

Most people don’t get to see behind the scenes of the brewing process or even know what the brewers look like. The craft beer industry has such a vibrant culture that it’s important to show the whole process. People are interested in seeing behind the scenes. The photos that I focus on are the brewers in action during the brewing process, tasting the beer, close ups of the equipment used, cleaning around the kettles and any other happenings going on.

2.    team photos

Showing your team on your website and social media is so important to make a personal connection with your customers. I always take photos of the people working at the brewery, whether they are behind the bar, in the tap room or in the brewhouse. People want to know who they are supporting when they visit a small business. This makes the relationship deepen and they will want to come back again and again.

3.    action pouring shots

The most fun photos to capture are the action shots! Sometimes they can be challenging with the lighting and small space. I love when there is some great natural light coming in and we have an overdramatic pour! These photos are great to grab attention on social media. I also love photographing some pretty staged beer shots around the tap room and outdoors.

4.  creative shots

My favorite part about photography is being creative! I love when a client trusts me to try something fun, like shaking a beer can to make it explode when opening it. The client held the beer can up in the sky, while I photographed it from below. I wanted to capture the vibrant colors, beer explosion and their iconic Juicy IPA. Overall, I really am happy how this creative shot came out. It can definitely be used for advertising.

5.  consumer packaged goods

Not all breweries sell canned beer, but some do sell locally and nationally in grocery stores. This requires photographs of your cans and bottles, or consumer packaged goods. Most of the time, grocery stores want these photos on a white background, but I also photograph the cans around the brewery to use for advertising and social media.

Overall, a brewery photo shoot is a fun experience, and it is super important for the brewery to have these photos. It helps their website, social media, and marketing campaigns.
